The Back Of The House Brawl just keeps getting bigger and bigger – and this week’s Bastille Day edition is going to be of epic proportions. For those who aren’t in the know, Jolene Manina’s weekly Saturday Night Truck Stop at Tommy Rocker’s has become one of the hottest after-work hangouts in town for Las Vegas’ top chefs. And every few weeks, she asks a couple of those chefs to hop onto the food trucks and compete in a cooking competition. It’s called the Back Of The House Brawl.
This week’s Brawl will feature six of The Strip’s best French chefs, competing in two teams. Representing The MGM Grand will be Claude Le Tohic of Joel Robuchon, Steve Benjamin of L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon and Chef Stephane Chevet of Shibuya. Representing Mandalay Bay will be Vincent Pouessel of Aureole, Bruno Riou of Mix and Laurent Pillard of Fleur. That’s a hell of a lot of talent to cram into two food trucks!
From 1:00 to 2:00 AM, the chefs will be selling their own duck creations to the public for $6 apiece. Proceeds from those sales will benefit Three Square. Then at 1:30 or so they’ll receive their mystery basket of ingredients for the competition. I’ll be there to judge their creations, along with Jim Begley and Eater Las Vegas’ Susan Stapleton. Admission is free, but get there early because the place is guaranteed to be packed.
