Two Food Competitions This Saturday — Come Join Me Early Or Late

on

It looks like Saturday is going to be a busy day for me, and for Vegas foodies.  First, Mix 94.1 is hosting the 16th annual Bite of Las Vegas Food and Music Festival at Desert Breeze Park.  Forty-five restaurants will be on hand, serving up samples of their food and competing in nine “Best Bite” food categories.  I’ll be one of the judges, tasting their fare between 11am and 1:30, and sticking around to announce the winners at 2:30.  And of course, this is a radio station event, so there will be music.  Performers include Matchbox Twenty, Alanis Morissette, Counting Crowes, Ed Sheeran, Tristan Prettyman, Phillip Phillips, Rebecca Ferguson and the winner of the local band competition, Band Battle For Bite. There will also be special performances from several of Las Vegas’ top shows.  I admit, none of the musicians really excites me, although it would be funny to run into the Matchbox Twenty guys again.  (I remember interviewing them when their first album came out, and hearing all of Rob Thomas’ screwed up ex-girlfriend stories!)

Late Saturday night (or actually early Sunday morning), I’ll be judging the Back Of The House Brawl.  This week will be both fun and stressful for me, since it involves chefs from two of my favorite kitchen teams: Marche Bacchus and Comme Ca.  I’m just hoping Jo keeps the ballots secret so I don’t end up losing friends over it.  If you’re near Tommy Rocker’s after midnight, make sure to check it out.
